Thirst Relief Mentors 2011

Wednesday, January 05, 2011 Posted in Wedding Photography Workshops

For the Last three years we have donated either a workshop or a mentor lunch at WPPI and the proceeds all go to Thirst Relief. Thirst Relief helps bring clean water to those that don’t have it. I couldn’t believe how many people go without something we take for granted.  We wanted to help even if in some small way.

I think one of the things that we all want is “purpose”. We want to feel like we are doing something important. Angie and I truly believe that the pictures we take are important. Whether its volunteering to shoot a wedding for free for a vow renewal for a terminally ill cancer patient or volunteering our time as mentors to help raise money for Thirst Relief.   Our purpose is to help others through life with our images. They can remind you of how you felt. They can remind you of the good times. They can tell your story.  We are so thankful that our skill is able to sometimes make a difference.

When the auction goes live we will let all of you know as well.  You may be wondering what we are donating.  I want to thank WHCC our lab and sponsors, that has continually supported us through classes, workshops, and Thrist Relief projects.  If you are looking for a lab these are great people to work with.

The winner of this auction will also receive a registration to a custom 1 day Woodshop class with Andy & Angie Wood in Colorado. This is a full day workshop in a one-on-one setting where you can design what you learn; this can include anything from shooting to business to studio lighting and is worth $800! This class is for up to 2 people within your studio. Check out their workshop website at: http://www.awoodshop.net for more information. This is for a registration to the class only, all other expenses (including all travel) are responsibility of the winner of this auction. Thanks to the wonderful people at WHCC, the winner of this auction will not only spend time and learn from Andy & Angie Wood but will receive a gift certificate to WHCC for some of their amazing products! WHCC 20×24 canvas.

Our vision is simple yet profound – to save lives and change the world.

Thirst Relief International is a water development organization working to improve access to safe water in nine countries worldwide. Founded in 2005, Thirst Relief works with its implementing partners to launch and sustain water projects in impoverished rural areas and urban slum communities. By providing infrastructure development, training, and financial and technical resources to our partners, we are helping thousands of people each year improve their health through safe drinking water. Without Thirst Relief’s support, and the generosity of our donors, many of these water projects would never come into being.

The Worldwide Water Crisis

In this day and age, the statistics are seemingly unbelievable. 1.1 billion people lack access to clean drinking water, and nearly 2.5 million people die each year due to waterborne-related disease (90% of which are children under the age of 5). As a result, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a worldwide water crisis among the world’s poorest people. Further, the UN has declared 2005-2015 Water for Life: The International Decade for Action.

Every week, due to easily preventable causes, diarrheal disease claims the lives of 30,000 people, most of them young children. This is a silent humanitarian crisis that thwarts progress towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MGDs). The consequences of our collective failure to tackle this problem are the dimmed prospects for the billions of people locked in a cycle of poverty and disease.

Here is a list from last years.  I am sure the list will be even more impressive this year
