Colorado Mountain Wedding

Thursday, March 24, 2011 Posted in Colorado Wedding Photographer

It’s always flattering when a fellow photographer hires you for their own wedding!  We have done several of these over the years and still blush a little when they sign the contract :)

We wanted to share a wedding today from one of those fellow photographers, Bryan & Alex from Avant Photography here in Denver.

They had a smaller wedding up in Genessee Park on a bright sunny day!  Since this isn’t a typical wedding venue they brought everything themselves including an aisle runner and chairs.  They had picked out the exact spot in the park they wanted their ceremony to take place and with the help of their friends and family had it all set up that morning.

If you know Andy & I, you know we love the color orange almost as much as our assistant, Charlotte does :D  So, when we saw the bridesmaid dresses Alex had picked out it put a huge smile on our face!  And actually she did a combination of solid orange dresses with orange/white flowered dresses.  To compliment the dresses Alex also picked out bouquets full of orange roses, orange gerber daises and smaller white daises.  The whole combination went very well together and was so pretty!

One of the things we loved at their wedding was the old English wedding ceremony.  Each of the wedding party had small speech to give about the couple and they exchanged old time gifts like a knife and jewelry.  It was so much fun to watch and after the couple was surrounded by all of their guests as they showered them with rose petals.

We are so thankful to have been a part of your day!  Thank you Bryan & Alex!

Old cameras for photographers

Wednesday, March 23, 2011 Posted in Colorado Wedding Photographer

Angie and I love watching American Pickers and Pawn Stars on TV.  Have you ever watched them?  We personally love old things that were built to last with a story.  Having the chance to use an old camera is part of the fun for us.  The other day there was an old Teddy Bear on Pawn Stars that was brought in from 1905 they said went for around $1500.00.  Angie was shocked and wondered who would pay that much money for an old bear.  I laughed at her and said who pay $1,000  for a hundred year old lens; oh wait…I would.  I probably wouldn’t pay that much for a stuffed bear, but I am sure someone out their appreciates its craftsmanship and will cherish it in a collection.

Old photography lenses give a distinctive look.  I love the fact we still live in a time where many of them can be used.  Not only are they really cool to look at but they can create some beautiful imagery.  From time to time I like to share some of the camera’s we own.  Ask me about them sometime and I will light up.

This  Zeiss Ikon was brought to the world in 1929 and it came in a few varaitions.  This one shoots 6×6 .  The square format is a lot of fun since the digital cameras we own are 4×6 it challenges us to think differently about composition.

  • Heather G J & I LOVE LOVE LOVE Pawn Stars and American Pickers...we especially love it when they have marathons on. :) It's amazing what they can find. 04.07.11, 01:54AM

Named Top 50 Wedding Photography Blogs

Tuesday, March 22, 2011 Posted in Denver Wedding Photography

I woke up yesterday and was tracking our stats like I usually do.  For all the non-geeks, we have a software package attached to our blog that tells us how many people visited and were they were sent from.  Small things like that.  I saw a lot of clicks from a site and went to check it out.  It was a list put together by photographertraining that talked about the 50 Top wedding photographer blogs.  I am sure a few of you are asking why get excited?  This blog was started 6 years and takes a ton of time and effort to keep going.  So we get pretty happy when we hear clients and friends or a guy over at photographertraining like it.  Thanks for hanging out and reading friends and clients.
