Estes Park Della Terra Wedding Photography

Colorado is known for it’s mountains and the many wedding venues with the beautiful views, fun reception rooms and the amazing scenery where we as wedding photographers thrive! Estes Park is one of those places and every year we get excited when we have a wedding to photograph there! One unique wedding venue in Estes Park is Della Terra; it’s a beautiful venue surrounded by mountains, rooms for the guests, a giant deck and a beautiful room full of windows for the wedding reception.

We had a lot of fun with Keith and Amber taking pictures in every corner of Della Terra. Her bridesmaids wore cute little pink dresses and they carried pretty bouquets full of roses, lilies and gerber daisies. It was fun to watch how close they were with their family and friends and we had a great time capturing it!

The holidays

I am sure many of you are in the same boat. As the world moves much faster now the holidays become kind of crazy. We don’t work less in December we actually work more so we can have some time with family and friends. You have to do more work, to make up for the time you will be taking off. I am currently working on a wedding we did at the Western Tabor Center. The film has come back which is all I have to show at the moment. I thought this image was so beautiful and stunning and wanted to share it.

What does the image tell you about the relationship

Every wedding we spend our time trying to get those images that are going to be timeless and are priceless to our clients. The picture that shows the happy times with the people they love. I am reminded as we get older that it’s not the things we build up while we are here that are really worth anything. We can’t take them with us. The relationships are the important things. Whether it is a relationship between a mother and daughter or something else. This is what matters. I hope we do these moments justice.

Some warm light on a cold day

Weather can sometimes be a problem on a wedding day. The nice thing about the weather in Colorado is that it doesn’t have to stay the same the whole day. It had been raining and snowing all day for this wedding. For the portraits before the wedding though we got 15 minutes of the most beautiful light. Warm, golden and beautiful. Since it is snowing again today, I wanted to share this image. Maybe it will warm you up.

It all starts with light

Clients look at us a like we are crazy sometimes. We talk about light as if it was drug that we needed. I heard someone, say when I was first starting out in photography. You are not really taking a picture of the people in the photograph you are taking a picture of the light on the subject. This may be a foreign concept for many clients, but without light you have no shape, texture, or color. Whats a picture without these things? Here is my bad sense of humor, everyone looks the same in the dark. Think of light as the wrapping paper around the subject. So next time we are rambling on about the light, you will better understand our obsession.

Red Rocks Wedding Teaser

Getting Film back from the lab I imagine is something like what our clients feel when they get the email their photo’s are done. I wanted to share a beautiful image from a wedding at Red Rocks. It’s a film image and I just love the colors. I can’t wait to share more wedding images very soon, it had so much love and style.

Andy and Angie Wood are one of only a few in the State of Colorado working with processes like film and wet plate collodion for weddings.

If you are a bride and have never seen Della Terra you owe it to yourself to check out the beautiful property in Estes Park. This portrait was taken upstairs in one of the beautiful getting ready rooms. High ceilings, tile and and incredible bathtub are just a few of the highlights. We thought the lines would make for an interesting portrait so we took Amber up their for a few photographs. I liked the way the architecture and lines, combined with the light helped frame and spotlight Amber.

Dramatic Beautiful light in Portraits

I love using dramatic light in our wedding and portrait photography. Finding is not always easy. Over the years we have devised a few ways to either create it or find places that yield it. At a wedding you can’t be running all over the place trying to find the light. You have to know what areas will be like based on the direction of the light and the time of day.

Jenn and Derek and their downtown denver engagement

We don’t post engagement sessions very often but more than half of our wedding couples do them! We have been all over the state photographing engagements from the streets of downtown Denver to the top of Vail in a blizzard. We both LOVE to do engagement sessions because we get to know our couple, we get to be creative and we get to have fun without the pressure of a wedding timeline.

Most people do them to become comfortable in front of the camera before their wedding day but I also think it gives the couple some memorable photos of this time in their life with all of the hustle of planning a wedding. It also gives them some photos in normal clothes that become timeless on their walls.

We did Derek & Jenn’s engagement session in downtown Denver during a colder time of year which let Jen bring several cute coats! Their wedding was a several months after at the Lakewood Country Club with some amazing vendors including Kelly Kakes who did their wedding cake and Rachel from Talia Events!
