Mountain Wedding with Josh & Melissa

From the beginning, Josh and Melissa were great to work with! We started with an engagement session before their wedding where we kept hearing about this infamous Jeep! We are Jeep owners ourselves, so we understand the love of a Jeep, but with Josh this was a car he spent hours working on and it came in as a very close second to the love of his life. They had wanted to use it for their engagement session, but it didn’t work out, so we knew it would be at the wedding!

They were married on a beautiful day at Stone Mountain Lodge in Lyons, near Estes Park. We all arrived around the same time and Andy quickly grabbed the first shot below of Josh and his mom. At every wedding we do the parents show a lot of emotion and this wedding was no exception. We love watching how happy and proud parents are on the wedding day.

I spent the first part of the day with Melissa in a little white tent, photographing her getting ready with the help of her mom, sisters and friends. It was a lot of fun to watch her when her bouquet arrived; she was so excited and it was so pretty! It was a bigger bouquet filled with pink and white roses and lilies. When it came time, you could see how emotional she was walking out with her father but the ceremony went off perfectly and afterwards we spent some time taking pictures of the two of them around the cute pond and beautiful scenery. Custom Mentorship Woodshops

Andy & I have recently started a series of photography workshops called the Woodshop! They include a few retreat style workshops and more one on one classes helping other photographers learn specific things for their business. A few weeks back we had a couple of great photographers from Montana fly out for a Woodshop and it was so much fun! We spent half the day discussing business, marketing, SEO and things that were specific to their company. The second half of of the day we had our assistant, Charlotte become our model and we played around in different areas of Denver with different lighting.

Working in a smaller group was great because we were able to address the specific needs of the people we were with! As with all of our small workshops we design the day based on what people want to learn! We wanted to share some of the photos from that day that we took of our beautiful assistant, Charlotte!

Also a special thank you to Chris Rebo and his business partner, Janna; we had a great time with you guys and have some amazing photography!

We didn’t shoot much since we were teaching but here a few ones of charlotte.

Senior Portrait Photography Denver

Here is one from yesterday out shooting with our friends in Professional Photographers of Colorado. It was hot out but it was fun to get out and shoot. We don’t advertise that we do senior portraits but have shot more than 30 in the last few years, they can be a lot of fun. I will be posting a lot more in the next few weeks.

Front Range Colorado Wedding with Fransisco & Shavon

Fransisco and Shavon had a smaller wedding here in the mountians of Colorado in Genessee. The amazing thing about where we live is that you can be in the mountians within 20 mintues. There are a few places to get married in Genessee and because it has the mountain feel without going to far it is really popular. This cute couple used red roses throughout their wedding and added a spanish flair with mariachi band for ceremony and reception. It was so great to be a part of this wedding and to watch the love in their family!

There are so many amazing places in the Colorado mountains to get married and Vail is always a favorite! We wanted to share a few of our favorite shots from a wedding we did in Vail with Todd & Michelle. They were married at the Vail Chapel; if you haven’t been there it is an adorable little church in the town of Vail with a grass area out back and a small stream. Michelle had a long veil and a beautiful bouquet of white roses and tulips. They had a large bridal party; 9 people on each side, with all of their close friends. Her bridesmaids wore different styles of long black dresses and carried bouquets of pink roses and tulips while the groomsmen wore simple white roses on their black jackets. Collodion Wet Plate

This process was invented in 1850’s by Frederick Scott Archer. Most of America’s early history was documented using this process. Many of us have seen these old photograph’s in our Grandparents houses or they have been passed down. We made this video for Professional Photographers of Colorado to show at the wedding workshop we ran this weekend. We had a great turn out and hope everyone learned something they can put into their business this year. Its hard to describe why you would go through this much effort for one photograph. The first images I saw with this process captivated me. They had a quality that made me feel like I was looking at the soul of the person being photographed. Collodion Wet Plate and techniques like this have kept us excited and ready to push our work for the “art of it”.

Lighting Demo at Denver PUG

Angie and I will teaching tonight at the Denver PUG (April 11th). We will be doing a light demo, teaching how to sculpt and shape light. The PUG is going to be at Spruce Mountain Ranch which looks like a beautiful venue. If you are interested the only thing you have to do is go to the PUG website and RSVP. DigitalPhotoBuzz is a really well run and helpful site for photographers. It has tutorials, reviews of new gear, inspiration. The site is run by Mark Stagi a talented photographer from the Bay area. Mark chose one of Angies photographs from the destination wedding in Cancun we shot last year. Along with the shot we sent over the settings and the gear used for all the tech’s out there.

Heather Gardner Colorado Wedding Planner

I’ve heard Colorado is among the top 10 places to have a destination wedding, which is not surprising with how beautiful it is! We have a lot of great venues, vendors, wedding photographers and wonderful wedding planners. I wanted to do a little post on our wedding photography blog about a great new vendor we have here!

We recently met this wedding planner through a Mile High Photographers event up in Estes Park at the Beautiful Della Terra. Heather Gardner from La Dolce Vita Weddings has been wonderful talk to about weddings, business and life. She is professional, knowlegable and would be a great asset for any bride through her wedding planning. We were instant friends when we met and I can’t wait to work on many weddings with her!

Heather recently wrote a post about us and I wanted to thank her as it was one of the nicest things anyone has ever written about us! This is the kind of post I will keep around to pull out on a bad day Thank you Heather; you are also a gem among the wedding vendors here in Colorado!
