Shove Chapel Wedding Photographers

Tom & Jill were one of those cute couples who love pictures and almost picked their venues around them. They were married at the historic Shove Chapel down in Colorado Springs….a huge chapel made of stone with colorful glass windows and quite possible the longest aisle I have ever seen. Many couples like to get married here because of the beautiful architecture and the beautiful park which surrounds it. Trees, grass and pathways all around marked with tall lampposts is what you will find outside the Shove Chapel.

Jill had a beautiful wedding gown with hand sewn bead work and carried a bouquet of white and purple roses. She wore a long veil that cascaded down the aisle behind her for several feet, perfect for the long aisle she walked down. Her bridesmaids wore elegant purple dresses and carried a little bouquet of white flowers. Their ceremony was full of happy tears and hugs……

Where have you been?

To be honest it has been absolutely crazy around here. We have a huge announcement that is going to change a lot of things for A&A Photography to announce very soon (All good things). We just had a beautiful destination wedding in Baltimore that we just got back from. We had a lot of fun made some new friends and best of all got some great images.

We are back and working hard on the images we have created this year for our wedding clients. I am working on a wedding from Colorado Springs at the Glen Eyrie Castle.

This is a beautiful image of the brides wedding dress, beautiful design and beautiful light.

Spring Wedding Season

This weekend we enjoyed the beautiful weather here in Colorado. We got to shoot an amazing engagement session. We talk about this a lot, but being a photographers has helped us to stop and enjoy the little things in life. We all hear people say this “stop and smell the roses”. It’s important that we do it. The image below was taken because I stopped to enjoy the little things. The beauty of the flower the light coming through the trees.

Make sure to stop and enjoy your wedding. It’s going to be amazing

Garden of the Gods Club Wedding with Phil & Amanda

Phil & Amanda were married in Colorado Springs at a beautiful Catholic Church, St. Paul’s with a reception that followed at the incredible Garden of the Gods Club. Their wedding was very classy right down to the gold lettering on the cake. Her bridesmaids wore a tea length bronze colored dress and carried colorful bouquets full of white, yellow and red roses. Their ceremony was full of emotions and after they floated back down the aisle all smiles we headed out to a few fun spots we had scouted out for their pictures.

The Garden of the Gods Club being our favorite spot with it’s amazing views, huge green lawn and beautiful, odd shaped little pool. Phil & Amanda had a large wedding and we spotted them sneaking off a few times throughout the reception to be alone and enjoy each other. This was great for us because we were able to capture some beautiful moments candidly with the views all around them.

Two of the large tables were full of Phil’s tennis team and before dinner Andy was able to take the entire team out to the tennis court for pictures. It’s always fun to learn about our clients lives and incorporate those details into their wedding photos!

Closest thing to a castle

I wanted to share this image. It reminds me of painting. Its dramatic has movement and has you wondering where she is going and what she is doing. I love images that tell a story and leave you wanting to know more. This wedding image was taken in Colorado Springs and I think its the closest thing colorado has to a castle.

What happened to spring?

Since Colorado weather can be so unpredictable and can still snow in April I thought I would share a few pictures to cheer everyone up. Last night was interesting with snow, hail, thunder and lighting all at the same time. Angie and I went out last week to take faith our jack russel on a walk. These were shot with my holgaroid and I shot them with 669. Hopefully spring will be back soon here in colorado because we miss you.

What is a holga?

For those of you that dont know what a holga is it is a 30.00 dollar chinese toy camera. For these shots though, a polaroid back was used, instead of 120 medium format film. It was made to provide a cheap camera in the 80′s that would make it easy for the masses to take pictures of events and people. Since then it has been marketed around the world and is often used as a creative camera. The camera is very easy to use with only a few settings to learn, which adds to its appeal. You get to spend more time thinking and composing your shots then worrying about settings. Many of the characteristics of the camera including the heavy vignette and light leaks add to the creative “happy mistakes”.

Meet Angie

Spring is here, wedding season is upon us. It was so nice out yesterday we decided to take faith our jack russell out for a walk. I grabbed a camera on the way out the door hoping to take a few pictures. Well I got to take some pictures of my favorite subject (Angie). Here is a sneak peak shot. I will post a few more later this week if we get 5 comments asking to see the rest. Trying to get you lurkers into the light, come out and play.

Holga Workshop

Andy & I have been having so much fun speaking different groups and teaching lately! The next workshop we have coming up is Wednesday, May 5th with the Mile High Photographers Group here in Denver. We are going to be teaching the class about Holga Cameras! We are going to talk about the history of them, how to use them and loading the film. Everyone will also have the opportunity to “Pimp” their camera!

We really wanted to do this class about Holgas and playing with composition outside of wedding photography to show how much you can learn from doing different things.

Who: Andy & Angie Wood + Mile High Photographers Group
What: Workshop on Holga Cameras and compostition
Why: To learn about this amazing little camera, practice composition, take back the fine art photography you have learned and
apply those skills to your wedding/portrait photography…..oh and have fun!
How: Buy yourself a Holga + 2 rolls of B/W 400 speed Film, Register for the workshop, Make your way up the mountain
When: Wednesday, May 5th 1PM – 5PM
Where: Idaho Springs, CO
We are going to meet at Tommy Knocker’s Brewery! If you want to car pool up there there is a group meeting
at here in town, you can ask Jessica, Shannon or Andrew for more information.

We will also have a private room at Tommy Knocker’s after the class at 5PM for anyone who wants to stay for dinner and talk!

A requirement of this workshop is that once the class is over you must develop your film and have 2-3 of your images printed out and mounted however you like. We will be having a gallery opening Friday, May 21st, where these images will be displayed and all of your friends and family can come and see!

We can’t wait to see you all there!
