Rangefinder Magazine and WPPI

Tuesday, September 07, 2010 Posted in Wedding Photography Workshops

We got our September 2010 Rangefinder Magazine in the mail last week.  Before we could open it one of our friends called, all excited.  He wanted to let us know that he had seen us in the magazine.  I have to say in a good way, it will probably never get old seeing our work published or seeing us speak at such a large convention.  It’s so cool to be a part of WPPI 2011 and we have some great information in store for you guys.

Registration for our class will begin in Mid October so keep your eyes peeled.

For anyone that doesn’t know WPPI is our industries largest trade show, convention, print competition in the world.  Over 12,000 photographers were at it last year in Las Vegas.

Labor Day Weekend Weddings

Sunday, September 05, 2010 Posted in wedding photography

Labor day weekend in Colorado is just beautiful and this weekend we have 2 weddings!  We just finished the first one today back in our college town of Fort Collins.

We like to arrive early and so we did today which gave us the opportunity to drive around and remember  so many great memories from CSU. We even  listened to the CU vs CSU game on the way up, although that was not the highlight of the day :)   We talked about our old apartments, our favorite restaurants and of course as we drove by the dorms, how much we despised the dorm.

We had a great time with Ryan & Hanni today!  I thought these images might be  a cool sneak peak for everyone.  For those wondering these are not digital images, but another passion of ours in the photography world…

Oldies but goodies

Friday, September 03, 2010 Posted in wedding photography

These images were taken more than three years ago.  I can’t believe how time flies past you.  I was moving some files around and ran across these long enough to keep my attention.  It’s always a learning experience and sometimes very humbling to see where you came from.  I thought I would share a few of them since if you are here its a good bet you love wedding imagery.

Mile High Photographers Album show

Thursday, September 02, 2010 Posted in Wedding Photography Workshops

A few weeks ago we were asked to speak at Mile High Photographers, a local photography association here in Colorado.  What do you talk about for two hours and make sure it’s important and worth listening to.  After much discussion, we decided to talk about creativity and being yourself.  It sounds trivial right?  It is for some.  It becomes obvious after looking at a dozen or so blogs, the wedding industry is having a hard time being themselves.  The same kinds of processing, using the same places and props.  Even their blogs and websites look the same.  Off on my tangent but, it seems trivial and it isn’t.  The very first decision should be who am I and what is my vision.  Unfortunately, since this takes time and many are scared to understand themselves they mimic what they see. Many times they pick someone they think is doing well or is successful.  Angie and I believe this is the first mistake many people make when entering the business.  It is so fundamental  that your business may never recover from making the wrong decision.   As artists and photographers we would love to see more people follow their vision, whats unique to them and garner the success they deserve from it.  We hope our little talk inspired the group to think inside themselves, to push themselves and figure out what is truly unique about them and their business.

Thank you to everyone who attended, it was great meeting you all!

The album show was attended by many of the industries best album manufacturers. I wanted to give a shout out to our favorite lab, and our new friend Kai from WHCC who maned the booth.  Every product these guys make is incredible and always on time.  If you looking for an incredible lab check them out at http://www.whcc.com

I also wanted to thank Jessica Bergthold for putting on the event.  It’s nice to be part of such a nice community in colorado.
