Booking Procedures (Wedding Photos)

Tuesday, December 08, 2009 Posted in Denver Wedding Photography

One of the hardest parts of this job is making sure that we keep our booking procedures fair for everyone.  Some photographers , if they have two couples for a date will pick or take the wedding with the higher dollar amount or better venue.  We don’t ever want to play favorites or get in uncomfortable situations for anyone.  We will never call a client  and tell them someone is looking at their date.  We don’t want to pressure anyone, we want you to get the photographer that is the best fit for you and your wedding.  The reason I post this is sometimes our policy of no pressure and first come first serve isn’t always fair, but its the closest answer we have for two people wanting the same date.

Things we have done to help make it fair.  If you ask or call we will tell if you someone else is looking at a date.  Again you can ask, but we will never call and pressure you.

Here is an instance were we feel bad, but there is no way around the problem.

  • Couple 1 calls a month ahead and sets a date to come into the studio.  They choose a Saturday.
  • Three days before the Saturday meeting another Couple II inquires for the same date and makes an appointment for Friday.
  • Couple II goes home and decides they want to book.  They call the morning of Saturday with a deposit.

You wouldn’t think things like this happen very often, but Murphy’s law dictates that it actually happens quit often with every possible set of circumstances.  The best advice, I can give is.  If you are meeting with a bunch of photographers and are not sure which one to go with don’t worry about this , but if you have gone through websites and blogs and you know this is the vendor for you don’t wait.  This advice goes for Wedding Planners, DJ, Cinematographers.  The talented vendors in colorado book up fast.

  • Mike Novelli Great post! I hate when that happens and you don't know what's the 'fair' thing to do. I liked reading your perspective :) 01.01.10, 08:05PM
