Little Teaser from Vail Wedding Photographers

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 Posted in wedding photographers

I just wanted to share a quick wedding dress from a wedding in Vail.  I know lots of you are picking out your dresses right now and its fun to see the different styles.  I will post the rest of this Vail wedding and reception at Donavans Pavillion.  Of course thank you to Joann at Mountains and Meadows for sending these two over.

Suggestion and Silhouette

Tuesday, December 13, 2011 Posted in wedding photographers

Silhouette is an outline of an object that appears dark against a lighter background.  I find that it is most effective when it is obvious what an object is.  It can be like the popular game pictionary.  You may not even have to show the whole object, people just know what it is.  In this case it is the brides shoes.  I also chose for this shot to make the background the in focus portion  which is a Secondary subject/content in the background contributes to the meaning or understanding of the photo.  We see that the wedding is taking place in a city with mountains in the background.  In this case Denver.  I am sure that some people wont like it, but from my stand point when you have the safe shots the perfectly lit closeups of the shoes, it is time to get the story telling images that are artistic.

Just one of the amazing things a wedding photograph can do

Friday, November 11, 2011 Posted in wedding photographers

I was preparing images for a blog post from a wedding in Estes Park at Della Terra and ran across this image.  It struck me, because it tells a story.  It at least for me, has the ability to put me in someone else’s shoes.  The interesting light on the bride.  The image gives you the ability even though you may not have a daughter to feel what it’s like to give her away at her wedding.  That is one of the greatest gifts that a photograph can give us.

Thinking differently with light

Monday, September 12, 2011 Posted in wedding photographers

One question a good wedding photographer is always trying to answer is what do my clients want?  Why did they hire me and not another photographer? Well one of the reasons, I believe we have been booked for 7 years is we are always trying to give our clients something a little different.  Trying to think just outside the box to create something unique.  It’s also one of the reasons we have been asked to speak and teach at  places like WPPI, WPPA, PPoC, PUGS, Mile High Photographers and our own wedding workshops the “woodshops”.

Here is an image we setup at a recent Woodshop.  Taken at around 3:00 when the sun was still almost overhead.  You can run for the shade and get the safe shot or you can create something different.  Personally, I think the choice is simple.  Go create something fun.
